EXIT 7n I-87n to I-95, in Highbridge, Bronx
“Back in 2019, in the ultimate "from rags to riches story", Cardi B weeped openly after becoming the first Solo Woman to win a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Even better it was for her debut album, entitled “Invasion of Privacy”.
The Bronx born rapper spoke about her pregnancy and daughter. Showing up on the red carpet with her husband, fellow rapper, Offset, she credited their daughter, named Kulture, for her sudden success. Seems giving birth to Kulture brought focus to Cardi B’s life.
“I want to thank my daughter,” she said. “I’m not just saying thank you because she’s my daughter. It’s because, you know, when I found out I was pregnant, my album was not complete.”
A new American success story, Cardi B should also thank 6 second video app Vine.
Representing the new way to break acts, she became an Internet celebrity after several of her posts and videos went viral on Vine and Instagram.
Born in 1992 of Trinidadian and Dominican descent, Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar was raised in the Highbridge neighborhood of the South Bronx not far from Yankee Stadium. The teenager suffered poverty and abuse and turned to exotic dancing to catch a break and get back into school. In other words, she was a stripper!
She attended Borough of Manhattan Community College/CUNY while working nights. But she did not finish. Instead she went online... and got famous!
In January, 2018, Cardi B was featured on Bruno Mars' remix version of “Finesse”. Then she also became the first woman to have five top 10 singles simultaneously on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
Her rap name is a derivation of Bacardi Rum. Cardi B loves Bacardi Rum.
But thanking her daughter for keeping her centered and focused shows she is not drunk with success -- just very successful.
Congrats Cardi B!
